4 Well Known Pieces of Advice Reimagined With a Twist

Have you heard a piece of advice that, in a sense, leaves you hanging??

"Follow your dreams,"

"Never give up,"

"Be yourself."

While these may be popular mantras, they often lack practicality, creativity, context, and specificity relative to one’s life season.

There was a time in my personal development journey when I would scramble to apply some of these pieces of advice for situations without respect for the nuances of my individuality.

I found myself traveling nowhere fast! I wasn’t,

  • Finding my Why

    OR

  • Collecting data about what I know to be true about myself

I became rigid in my approach to life and incredibly unfulfilled.

TLDR: Challenge your perspectives and elevate your life with these reimagined nuggets of timeless wisdom.

Creating Personal Development Content: Why One Size Does Not Fit All

The creation of this blog, Divine Download, was born out of the desire to create personal development content that is not one size fits all;

Content that is specific, actionable, and inclusive.

Let’s look at four well-known pieces of advice and reimagine them for specificity and refinement.

4 Well Known Pieces of Advice Reimagined with a Twist

1. Stop Overthinking!

Whenever I heard this advice, my overthinking was postponed to another time when I was out of people's faces.

I also feel this advice does not account for introverted cognitive functions that deeply process their surroundings as a primary method of processing the world.

These types can develop deep mistrust of actions and an overdependent trust in thoughts that feel safe and comfortable in our minds.

2. Fake It Till You Make It!

I use some material and cosmetic enhancements on a weekly rotation that, although fake, provide a quick fix to longer-term goals.

However, I have yet to find this advice transferable to personality traits.

Whenever I applied the advice to my personality traits, I stood out like a sore thumb.

3. Ignore Bullies!

Although I believe in the silent strength of mastering your reactions and not causing a scene, this advice may work best for school-aged children who are not trying to get suspended.

It is not reinforced enough that bullies appear in every walk and stage of life and get more subtle and insidious because they have better tactics to hide their relational aggression.

It's always disheartening when I come across adult bullies.

These provoking types need to be shown the line apethically and unapologetically.

4. Treat People How You Want to Be Treated!

This one may need to be saved for those who have trouble treating people in ways not in their own interest.

For years, I thought, let me show how much space I have to take people as they are, and they will one day be able to extend the same in my direction.

Sometimes, the most loving way to treat others is to make yourself the most comfortable at their expense. We don’t want be enablers right?

A Twist of Fate

I've always believed the right message at the right time can change your trajectory.

My wish for the next generation is to receive uplifting advice that respects each person's situation and individuality.

It’s already taking place! So many people are committed to dismantling systems that restrict self-actualization.

The teacher in me wants to ask you,

What piece of advice are you reimagining for yourself and others?

I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Happy Reflecting!
